Arcana Obscura

Created by Hannah

Explore the world of tarot with the magic of poetry with Taroetry! This is the first publicly-available project from Arcana Obscura, an art collective grounded in tarot, poetry, and visual arts. Find us on instagram! @arcanaobscura Our pre-order store is now available below for those who didn't get a chance to back us on Kickstarter (and shipping is now available internationally!). Taroetry is an illustrated book of rhymed poetry about tarot based on the structure of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. In making this book, we seek to make the ritual of self-reflection through tarot accessible to all. Check out our Kickstarter for more details about this project.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

On the Road to a Final Draft
almost 5 years ago – Sat, May 18, 2019 at 03:41:22 AM

Thank you, Taroetry backers, for being so patient in waiting for this update! Here are some updates about where we are in our process:

Our current priorities are to...

1) Finalize the poetry. Hannah is working hard on polishing her rhymes in final drafts.

2) Finalize the illustrations. Cassandra is drafting and re-drafting for consistent style and impeccable detail.

Polishing Poetry

Some of the changes Hannah is making to her current drafts are minor (see the Magician drafts below), and others involve larger changes (see this reworking of Strength). Hannah is aiming to completely finalize the text by beginning of June.

Illustration Process

Cassandra's process begins with imagining illustrations to complement the text in meaning and the actual shape of the page:

After these initial drafts, Cassandra focuses on creating clean images with the line weight and style she has developed for the project:

As our text and illustrations are finalized, they will be combined and formatted into the copy we will send along to our printer.

Next Steps

After finalizing these drafts, we will work on finalizing PDF rewards and preparing Taroetry for the printer. We look forward to sharing more details and timelines as they arise. As soon as we have predictions for when the book will be sent to the printer, we will post another update.

Let us know what you think of our progress! We can't wait to share more of our work with you.

Peace and Love,

Hannah and Cassandra

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for each and every one of your contributions! This Kickstarter was so much more successful than we expected, and we are thrilled to be able to move forward with printing Taroetry (we've also started to dream and scheme about future projects).

Keep an eye out for our survey; we will update you as we prepare to fulfill  rewards!

Sending all of the good vibes,

Only 2 days to go!
about 5 years ago – Sun, Apr 21, 2019 at 09:30:19 AM

As we near our final 48 hours, we wanted to share a couple pages from The Fool's Journey!

The Magician from "The Fool's Journey"
The Magician from "The Fool's Journey"

Throughout "The Fool's Journey", we follow The Fool as they meet each of the Major Arcana cards. Also included are questions to consider, as well as an affirmation associated with the card. You can either read through the entire epic poem to see the whole journey, or use the poems a tool to interpret cards during readings.

We hope this gives you a better idea of what our finished product will look like!

Peace and love,

Hannah and Cassandra

One week to go!
about 5 years ago – Sat, Apr 20, 2019 at 05:58:19 AM

As we enter our final week: if you know someone interested in deepening their knowledge of the tarot, beginning their journey, or who simply loves the spell-binding effect of poetry, please consider telling them about Taroetry!

One of our goals in creating this book was to reach new people and make our knowledge and approach to reading tarot accessible to all. That is why we made copies of Taroetry available at the $15 pledge level - we wanted to make sure it remained affordable.

At this point in time, the only way to obtain a copy is to donate (though we have plans to eventually make Taroetry available for purchase online)!

Once again, thank you all so much for your support! It means the world to us.

Next week, we will be sharing a few finalized pages from Taroetry with you - we are so excited for you to see it!

Over $4000 pledged!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 08, 2019 at 04:10:17 PM

Thanks to the continued success of this campaign, we will be expanding our print order for the first edition of Taroetry!

With a larger print order, we will be able to not only fulfill all of our rewards from this Kickstarter campaign but also create a stock for our e-commerce store, local bookstores, and esoteric shops!

Here's another sneak peak to celebrate!

This new video features "On Reading with Strangers," read out loud by author Hannah Gatzka, with the first three illustrations of "The Fool's Journey" - The Fool, The Magician, and The High Priestess.

Thank you again for all of your support - we are excited for all that the future holds!
